Deconstructing Design: Joy in a World Where ‘Wild Things Will Roam’

I ran a poll several months ago to ask what scene(s), if any, readers might want to see deconstructed. One of the suggestions that caught my attention was a snippet that actually happens off screen and spans only two paragraphs, but serves as the height from which the story is dropped in the last quarter. The reason the reader suggested this scene is exactly aligned with the purpose that I hoped it would serve: “It’s such a nice moment before everything gets flipped on its head.”

  • You’re lonely. And you’re not alone.

Let me know if this sounds familiar: You’re feeling out of touch. You notice you’re now awkward around your closest friends and family. Every conversation you have is either superficial or about all the anxiety-inducing horrors going on around you. You feel stupid, kind of jealous, and just… on the outside, even with people you […]

  • Pulse.

    Pulse.

There’s a phone ringing somewhere in the room, followed by another, and another. Intentions.

    Yoga Studio

So my lovely and adorable husband has turned our garage into my own personal yoga studio. That’s right, he’s completely forfeited his ONE domain in our home (or half a domain, as we were only using half of the garage for his garage gym and half of the garage for the car) and installed rubber […]

    Wedding and Honeymoon

So, so much has happened. For starters, Daniel and I got married. And I learned that all of those little details I wanted to be perfect, I never even saw (no, seriously, I’m waiting for the photographer to give us back photos so I can actually see what our wedding cake looked like. I truly have […]

  • I’ve missed you.

Okay, Diary. To say I’ve been scarce lately would be the understatement of the century, I realize. And to say that this was out of my control would be a complete and utter lie. In fact, on more than one occasion I’ve thought to myself, “Self, we should write in our blog,” and then, in […]
