Alright, so those of you that know me also likely know that I don’t operate within the realm of generally accepted time. Therefore, when I say something like, “For the next 30 days…” I likely mean “For the next 30 days when I think about and have time for posting.” So, I owe you Day 1 of the 30 days of getting to know me. I’d like to add here that I’m gravely disappointed by the lack of blog creations from my last post and hope that starting the questions will light a fire under a few asses, pardon my French.
Question 1: List 20 random facts about yourself.
This is painful and I don’t particularly want to fill this one out for a couple of reasons. The first being that I naturally draw a blank every time someone asks me anything about myself (even though I keep a running tab of interesting facts when no one’s asking), and the second being that this is likely not very interesting to anyone reading it. Let’s be honest, every time I got one of these on MySpace I filled it out with the hopes that someone out there would read it but with the understanding that everyone just copies them and put their own information into it (Read: no one actually cares). I’d also like to note that “random” means that there can’t be any semblance of coherent thought between the string of facts, making this considerably more difficult by definition. I’m going to ignore that and just let you know that there will likely be a theme present. I’m actually going to tackle this in two shifts as I don’t want to get too lengthy, so here are numbers 1-10.
1. I love classic cars.
’67 Impala? Yes, please. No, but honestly I’d love to restore a mid-60’s model Ford Fairlane. I’m not sure what Daniel’s preference in classics is, however, and I’ll at least do him the honor of consulting him before I purchase one.. but nevertheless, I WILL purchase one.
2. I’m kind of a super fan geek, so when I like something, I like it with extreme passion.
Case in point: I used to imagine that I lived in Middle Earth back in middle school, thought I would legitimately marry Benji Madden from Good Charlotte, and then, as my tastes progressed, Davey Havok from AFI. I own several Supernatural fan gear products including my license plate cover and now a mousepad for my office. The list continues, and brings me to random fact number 3…
3. I fall in love easily.
This is likely apparent to anyone who’s ever spent any time with me at all. Mention a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and I about lose it, but the same goes for almost every actor ever as long as I’ve just recently watched the film. The Leonardo thing stems from his being my first on-screen crush (Imagine, 8 years old, sitting in the theater and seeing his dreaming boyish face standing 30-feet tall on the deck of the Titanic. I would have NEVER let go, Jack, and we could have BOTH fit on that door). I then went on to watch every episode of Growing Pains in hope that it would be the one season when he was the random homeless cousin that came to stay. I thought we were going to get married.* As of right now, I’m in love with Alexander Skarsgard from True Blood. Two weeks ago I was in love with Andrew Garfield from Spiderman. Last Halloween it was Evan Peters from American Horror Story. The list continues.
*I still hold out hope that if I get fit enough, I’ll have a shot with him. I figure, I may not be a Victoria’s Secret model like he usually dates, but I am 15 years younger than him. That has to count for something.
4. I was a super weird child.
I was afraid of the dark until I was 12. I slept with a night-light and a security blanket (which I still have and sleep with) because I was convinced that cannibals were going to kidnap and eat me in my sleep. I often woke up in the middle of the night feeling paralyzed and terrified that demons were going to possess me. To compensate for this fear, I was also crazy into the occult and LOVED vampires. This hasn’t changed in even the slightest.
5. I like to paint.
I’m not very good at it, but it’s definitely something I enjoy doing in my free time. I’d love to spend more time learning different techniques and actually running with it as a hobby, but I haven’t had an opportunity to yet.
6. I fabricated most of my memories.
I have what I believed to be an “overactive third-eye,” which probably explains my interest in Sci-Fi. I’ve lived most of my life in some form of a daydream and apparently this has caused some sort of disconnection between what has actually happened to me in the past and what I imagined happened to me. I often will bring up memories of random events and my parents will be like, “That never happened,” so either I made it up or they weren’t watching me closely enough. Who knows. I mention this because of my next point…
7. I have, for as long as I can remember, thought I was chubby.
Now, my first memory of this was the Halloween I went as a blue belly dancer. I was probably 7 or 8, and I remember my mom getting onto me for sucking in my stomach. She told me I was, “too young to worry about that.” Whether this is one of those fabricated memories or not, I don’t know, but it was the first time I remember feeling self-conscious about my body.
8. I’m lactose-intolerant.
Among other things. For some reason, my digestive system has always given me all kinds of grief. I tend also to “internalize” my stress and carry it in my stomach, so I spent many key developmental years of my life feeling nauseous.
9. I’m not very good with goals.
I don’t tend to stick with them, and I get really irritated when I can’t just instantly achieve them. Therefore…
10. I surround myself with motivational dry erase boards.
I actually just ordered one for my cubical earlier today. I love the things. I keep them all around me and fill them with quotations and photos and anything that will keep me focused on whatever my goal may be at the time.
