So day 1 & 2 went swimmingly.
I met the couple I’m going to be living with this summer. Not only are they adorable, but their house is as well. My room is a pleasant and calming shade of blue, complete with a full/queen bed adorned with camel, white, and pale blue accents. Camel colored curtains provide relief from the warm summer sun, and a brown bookshelf houses personal effects such as photographs of family & Daniel and my TV. All of my things fit in the closet. The bathroom has a full countertop, double sinks, and plenty of storage for a girl who’s accustomed to a 5×6 bathroom with merely a single under sink cabinet.
Cali & Chris have an adorable King Charles Cavalier Spaniel named Sullivan Ross who is small and thus quite a change from my massive Moose puppy. He’s well behaved and seems to have taken a liking to me, so likely we’ll get along well. (What can I say? I like to be liked).
As for me, I sent my parents away today. I spent one last night as their baby and we drove to Tulsa for dinner and a movie (Snow White & The Huntsman, anyone? ). Today we slept in, watched “The Birdcage” (hilarious!), went out to lunch & drove downtown.
As they got ready to leave, my dad said, “Now, once we get in this car, you’re officially an adult.” I hugged them both a big goodbye, and felt a little sad as I watched them disappear. It was weirder than leaving them to start college. This time, I don’t get to go back to being their (stubbornly reluctant) baby next time a vacation rolls around. I don’t get long vacations anymore! And next time I do, I’ll be well on my way to being Daniel’s wife.
I’m a big kid now.
It breaks my heart to think what they’re going through, but I’m trying to stay focused on the wonder that lies ahead. This summer will be a lot of fun, although the fear of gaining weight is hanging mercilessly above my head. It’s not enough to refuse; I have to actively counterbalance & practice serious discipline.
“…whatever means necessary.”
A 5:30 wake up call awaits me this week. I have to stay on top of things if I don’t want to add the minimum 10 lbs afforded the New Hire class of last summer. It may be vain, but I’ve worked too hard to let it all fall away at the drop of a fork.
Thunder outside is begging me to fall asleep now. I’m fighting it with all I have to finish this post, but something about the rain gets me every time. Until next time, my friends. Until next time.
